To its credit, Fate actually did give me plenty of fair warning that I was bound for Fashion.

Perhaps it all began at the tender age of 14 months, when a pair of my mother’s heels mysteriously vanished without a trace in a New England hotel room. With the clock running down until check-out time, my mother heroically discovered said shoes — and I’m quite pleased with myself for this stroke of genius — floating in the toilet. Mischievous? Maybe. But I’d like to think I was having my first wannabe Anna Wintour moment.

Other signs followed. I once snuck away from a family visit to re-organize my aunt’s shoe closet by color and style. As evidenced by recently-unearthed composition notebooks, I solicited orders for crayon-rendered fashions with “extra cozy sleeves” and “cotton lining.” I even appointed myself Editrice In Chief of a homespun media conglomerate, which, in a pre-blog era, put out eNewsletters and mini fashion magazines to household members and thankfully-nonjudgemental classmates.

While I never got into the Imaginary Friend craze, I did dream up an imaginary address.  On every makeshift subscription card (oh, yeah, I went there) and mock masthead, I always included the location of my operations:

.

123 Hummingbirds Lane

.

Five years at Stanford and two years at Parsons later (you do the math), I find myself in the heart of the fashion industry in New York City, finally setting out to do what the universe apparently always meant me to. I created this space as a way to honor those childhood dreams of mine, and indulge my natural impulses to share my passion with others. I couldn’t be happier to come full circle back to Hummingbirds Lane, and hope you enjoy it here just as much as I do. Thanks for visiting!
